In 1880, a local branch of Woman's Foreign Missionary Society was organized in the Baldwin church. Dr. and Mrs. Julius Smith, long missionaries in Burma and later residents in Baldwin, were especially influential along with many pastors and teachers in arousing interest in world evangelism. Baker students who worked in this church during their college years as well as those who were born in Baldwin should be mentioned among the number of those who have gone from this church to the foreign field.
