Hoops for HopeHoops for Hope

On Sunday, March 14th, the BFUMC Missions Team hosted “Hoops For Hope” at the Collins Center on the Baker University Campus. This event was designed to promote awareness about the worldwide malaria prevention program called, “Nothing But Nets,” which purchases bed nets for adults and children in Africa for mosquito protection.

Thirty-one BFUMC members and friends came together for an hour of shooting baskets and playing pick-up games, and the event “netted” 529.69! The Missions Team will be matching those funds, for a total of $1151.38. At $10.00 a net, our efforts will provide 100+ nets for those in need of protection from mosquitoes carrying malaria!

Highlights of the event included Bob Morse speaking about his own experience with having malaria, having an hour of fun and fellowship together as a reminder of the 14th being the fourth Sunday in Lent and therefore the day when United Methodists everywhere participate in “One Great Hour of Sharing,” and as always, the amazing generosity that continues at BFUMC!

World Day of Prayer Service

On March 5th, the Baldwin First UMW hosted a World Day of Prayer service with over 25 attending. The program, "Let Everything That Has Breath Praise God", was written by UMW from Cameroon, Africa.

After the service, we were treated to soup and muffins made from African recipes by Bonnie Morse.

Thanks to the Eve Circle for planning and hosting this event, especially Coleen Burgess and Bonnie Morse.

Beach Party

BeachParty1smThe Beach Party Cookout Youth Mission Fundraiser was a big success. The Fellowhip Hall was transformed into a Beach Party. Over 100 people enjoyed grilled hamburgers and hotdogs and over $1700 was raised to help support the Youth Mission Trip to Idaho this summer.
