Church Council Minutes

June 25, 2012

Council Members: Council Chair Bill Clement, Donna Curran, Michael Curran, Carolyn Groves,  Bob Morse, Kathleen Thomas

Advisory Members: Katherine Cook

 

Bill opened the meeting at 7:05 p.m. with the scripture Colossians 3:1-11 reminding us that Christ is all and is in all.  He followed with a prayer encouraging perseverance and fellowship.

 

Kathleen moved that the minutes of the May 29th meeting be approved, and Carolyn seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

Finances

Mike shared the financial report through the month of May.  Records indicate that expenses are $6,074.34 over budget at this time, with a shortage of about $15,000 of expected income compared to the amount budgeted through the first five months of the year.”

 

Following up on discussion of a policy for inactive restricted accounts, Mike presented a policy for consideration:

 

Before the August Administrative Council meeting, the finance committee shall identify any restricted accounts that are inactive in excess of one (1) year, to be considered for absorption into the general fund.  A list of possible accounts shall be made available to the congregation prior to the first council reading.  Those accounts shall then be read into the Administrative Council minutes during the August meeting.  Those same accounts shall be read again into the Administrative Council minutes during the September meeting.  If there are no objections to any of the accounts read, the Administrative Council may vote to absorb the accounts into the general fund during the September meeting.  If there are objections to any one account, the Administrative Council may vote at a later meeting after discussion of the objection.  Any objection may be made verbally or in writing at the August or September Administrative Council meeting.

 

The Council will hold further discussion regarding this potential policy at the July meeting.

 

Carolyn moved that Bill DeMoss’s name be added to the bank signature card along with Martha Harris and Dianna Dillon so he can write checks.  Only one signature of the three will be required for a transaction.  Kathleen seconded the motion.  The motion carried.

 

Trustees

 

Bill reminded the council that the trustees have decided to postpone consideration of new projects until finances are more stable.

 

SPPRC

 

Bob shared that the personnel handbook has been completed.  It is being edited now and should be made available soon.

 

The position of youth assisstant will be finalized in the fall with the return to school.

 

Pastor Paul

 

Pastor Paul asked whether the release of school for the summer generally coincides with a decrease in attendance.

 

Annual Conference met earlier this month.  It was determined that the three annual conferences will combine to become the Great Plains Conference, beginning on January 1, 2014.

 

Bill closed the meeting with a prayer at 8:12 p.m.
